My name is Jamie Trana and I have lived in Iowa my entire life with the exception of the year I spent abroad in Mexico. It was there I became fluent in Spanish and returned to receive a BA in Spanish from the University of Iowa in 2003. I graduated from Mount Mercy University in 2022 with a MA in Marriage & Family Therapy. I also worked in the field of disability social work for over 15 years as a direct care provider, coordinator and case manager.
I trust we all have moments of genuine compassion for others, and therefore, can learn to make room for those same moments for ourselves. Self-compassion is key to experiencing lasting change and can be fostered by practicing vulnerability, awareness and acceptance. I am dedicated to helping you connect with your inner wisdom to explore your own individual path to healing. I am committed to upholding a culturally responsive practice thus creating an environment of curiosity and understanding. I believe in transformative processes, recognizing and learning from mistakes and reinterpreting who we are and what we believe based on life experiences, that teach us to be open to new possibilities. I have experience working alongside of and collaborating with diverse families, couples and individuals using evidence-based practices and strategies to improve relationships with oneself and others. I enjoy spending time crafting, being outdoors with my family and playing pool with my friends. “As we learn to have compassion with ourselves, the circle of compassion for others - what and whom we can work with, and how - becomes wider” ~ Pema Chodron
